Fire Starter

July 5, 2015 - Have you ever suffered from “Foot-In-Mouth Disease?”  If so, this sermon is for you – AND ME. The third chapter of James is going to show us on how our tongue can start forest fires.  Lets lay down our matches and cling to the Holy Spirit’s power to guard our tongue.

Faith & Works

June 28, 2015 - How important is it to you, to live a holy life?  How often do you give thought to your actions?  Or do you lean on what you know for your walk with God?  Here we look at the intimate connection between faith and works, as well as what balancing the two has to say about our community as a church.

Favoritism & Prejudice

June 21, 2015 -  Have you ever discriminated against anyone for their social status?  How about the way they look?  Do they fit the church mold? Do they look like they would attend church?  Have you ever thought less of someone based on tattoos, piercings, raggedy  clothes, three-pieced suits or flowing dresses? What should a church-goers look like?  What kind of people should attend?

Headphones / Duct Tape / Mirror / Bridle

June 14, 2015 - What do headphones, Duct tape, a mirror, and a horse bridle all have in common?

The Birth of Sinful Babies

June 7, 2015 - Did you know that Men and Women can have babies?  Intrigued?  Well, in this next passage in the book of James he begins to compare sins to a birth.  When temptation is conceived it births Sin and then as Sin is fully mature, it leads to death.  Ouch!  How many sinful babies have I birthed?  Talk about painful.  See how these babies are not brought to us by God, but by the sins that are in us.

What Was Your Grade On Your Test?

May 31, 2015 - We are beginning a new series on the Book of James.  James is explaining how to live out the Christ Following life.  He will be stretching us on our journey.  Have you ever struggled between Faith and Doubt?  Would you like some wisdom in your life?  James chapter 1 will explain how to begin.

What Business Are You In?

May 24, 2015 - Are you a clock watcher?  Does it drive you insane to be late? Do you like arriving on time? Or, are you someone that is frequently late? Someone who loses their clock?  Well, in this day and age we rely a lot on time. This is where we find the readers of Peters final letter. They are frustrated with God’s timing as scoffers are presenting themselves saying “Where is your God?”  “Why hasn’t He come back?”  Listen as we silence scoffers and trust in God’s timing.

The Day of the Lord

May 17, 2015 - Are you a clock watcher?  Does it drive you insane to be late? Do you like arriving on time? Or, are you someone that is frequently late? Someone who loses their clock?  Well, in this day and age we rely a lot on time. This is where we find the readers of Peters final letter. They are frustrated with God’s timing as scoffers are presenting themselves saying “Where is your God?”  “Why hasn’t He come back?”  Listen as we silence scoffers and trust in God’s timing.

Return to the Vomit

May 10, 2015 - Have you ever placed someone on a pedestal?  What was your reaction when they didn’t turn out to be what you thought?  Were you devastated? Were you wounded?  Did you ever feel like throwing in the towel?  This message concludes Peter’s passion to expose false teaching and to be extremely careful about placing people above God.  We do not follow man.  We follow THE MAN, JESUS.

The Weigh of the False Prophet

May 3, 2015 - "Have you ever said "God told me" or "God said" but weren't sure if God had actually spoken?  Sometimes it's too easy in our church culture to put words in God's mouth.  The Bible is very clear that this is wrong however, and it calls it false prophecy.  False prophecy is too common in the modern church and it shows no sign of going away.  What are we as Christians supposed to do about it?  Join us this Sunday as we look at what Peter has to tell us about false prophets, how to recognize them, and how to protect ourselves against them.

Stir It Up

April 26, 2015 - This Sunday we are continuing in our 2 Peter series.  Peter is beginning to sound like a broken record to his readers, because he wants to stretch the importance of stirring up the heart, mind, and soul to focus in on what we truly believe.  We have so many false teachers and doctrines out there in our culture today and it is important that we continually stir up the love of Jesus so we are not swayed into believing fake gospels.

Principles That Lead to a Legacy of Faith

April 19, 2015 - Pastor Jim Jessup, from William Jessup University, shares a challenging message. What legacy will you leave? “Keep aiming at the right things in life to create a legacy of faith in Jesus”

Spiritual Supplements

April 12, 2015 - Now that we have experienced Jesus death and resurrection we are going to be starting up the second installment of Peter and his letters to a scattered church.  Let's allow Peter to take us on a spiritual journey to combat false doctrine and teachings that were taking the focus away from Jesus and His sacrifice and making it more about our personal lifestyle. Peter is going to proclaim that we are "partakers with Christ."  This means we get to live with His divine character and attributes.  What a way to live!

Life After Death, "But God"

April 5, 2015 - Easter Sunday brings "A RISEN SAVIOR!"  This week we walk through God's wonderful gift of Grace, JESUS!  We are going to focus on two words, "BUT GOD."  We were lost in our sin, "BUT GOD."  We were dead to our sin, "BUT GOD," We were bound in chains, "BUT GOD."  "BUT GOD," being rich in mercy, made us ALIVE together with CHRIST.

Praise Him! Turn Your Backs on Him!

March 29, 2015 - This Palm Sunday, we reflect on our commitment to Christ. Is our commitment and love for Christ conditional or unconditional? Do we spread our cloaks for Him daily or only when it is convenient? If we truly believe that “to Him be glory forever,” then our actions must continually express that belief. Palm Sunday is an example of the behavior and attitude God’s followers are to express on a daily basis, not once a year or special occasions. Are we living Palm Sunday once a year or whenever it is convenient? Blessed be His glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with His glory! Amen and Amen!

Realism and How to Shepherd the Flock

March 22, 2015 - This Sunday we will be wrapping up our TRANSFORM-US series through 1 Peter.  Peter ends this book with a hefty realism for us all to digest that we are ALL going to suffer for the sake of Christ. The biggest question this Sunday is, “Are you ashamed of the Gospel?”  Are you able to confidently share about Jesus no matter the raised eyebrow, the booing crowd, or the flying rock?  Peter wants us as Christ Followers not to be shocked by peoples responses.  The good news of Christ is He gives us a light to shine.  Is yours under a basket? a small flicker? or on a stand on a hill? In the end by the power of God’s grace can he restore and strengthen you.  To him be the dominion forever and ever. AMEN

Being Stewards of God's Grace

March 15, 2015 - Peter is going to help us walk through some more areas of the heart that needs to be cleaned up.  Have you ever wondered why sin can be so enticing?  Have you ever asked yourself why you might go back to that particular sin you may struggle with?  Is it because we get bored? Is it because we haven’t had a clean break, or is it because we haven’t been functioning in the way Christ wants us to function?  Peter wants us to look outwardly in our Christianity.  He is encouraging his readers to begin to take their focus off themselves and to begin to allow our Christianity to be presented by our actions.  Its hard to sin when we are focused on other things…. Way to go God for using Peter to cut to the heart of things.

The Blessing of Sacrifice

March 8, 2015 - Wow, what a roller coaster ride Peter took us on in 1 Peter 2:13, regarding submitting to authority.  All the questions, emails, phone calls, and comments helped inspire many to pick up their Bibles and begin researching Peter and Paul's words.  Well, if you thought last week was tough, this Sunday we enter into Peter's next form of submission as he opens up the text by saying, "Likewise, wives, subject to your own husbands..." Peter spends six verses on wives and one on husbands. That will cause some men to get excited and feel they have a pass because they are only talked about in one verse.  However, don't let it fool you, because Peter has some strong words to say for husbands out there.  This week we wrestle through how to be stronger wives and husbands. Lord, I pray that you will continue to "Transform-us."

Wives and Husbands

Submission to Authority

February 22, 2015 - Have you ever had trouble respecting and honoring authority?  Your parents? Your employer? Law enforcement? Governor? The President? Even the IRS?  This is where Peter picks up in the text as we continue our "Transform-us" series.  God has created authority and this even includes delegated authority. Obeying God means to obey authority.  God has used Peter to speak truth to us.  Prepare to take a heart inventory and pray for those in authority over us.

We Are The Walls of The Church

February 15, 2015 - Being from another country myself, I understand what it means to be a little different.  I act a little different, speak a little different, support a different type of sport and Olympic team, and sometimes when I hiccup it sounds like I’m saying the word “Eh!”  As we start a quick two Sunday sermon series, we are going to be hearing from Peter, one of the pioneers of the New Testament church.  He is calling all who believe in Jesus “Aliens.”  As a former resident Alien to the United States, I can relate to what Peter is describing in his letter in 1 Peter.  Because we are all aliens, we need to speak differently, act differently, and even present ourselves differently than the culture in which we are currently living.  He wants to make sure we do not sacrifice our new found salvation in Jesus, to passions and cares of this present world but to train and stay together as we look forward to our coming inheritance.

Living As Aliens - Part 2

Living As Aliens - Part 1

Pump the Brakes Impactfully

January 25, 2015 - If Satan can’t make you bad, he will make you busy.  Dallas Willard put it this way, “Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day. You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.”  This week we consider how we can accomplish more of significance by ruthlessly pursuing less.

Pump the Brankes Intentionally

January 18, 2015 - If we don't set priorities in our lives, someone else will, and our soul will pay the price. Caring for the soul needs to be a priority and intentional. There is nothing more important than to maintain a healthy soul. This is what John Ortberg writes, "If your should is healthy, no external circumstance can destroy your life, If your soul is unhealthy, no external circumstance can redeem your life."

Pump the Brakes Relationally

January 11, 2015 - In the book, "Bowling Alone" Robert Putnam shows how we have become "increasingly disconnected from family, friends, neighbors," so that we "belong to fewer organizations, know our neighbors less, meet with friends less frequently, and even socialize with our families less often."

Pump the Brakes Spiritually

January 4, 2015 - Why is it important to pay attention to my soul? Most believe that the soul exists, yet they have a hard time defining one of the most important words in the Bible. The soul is the core of who you are, which is why Dallas Willard comments, “What matters is not the accomplishments you achieve; what matters is the person you become.” So what does God say about the priority of caring for the soul?

Training for Godliness

December 28, 2014 - The sounds of Christmas are distinct. The bells ringing, the carolers singing. The harmony of Christmas isn't complete until you hear from the one who started it all. Experience the sounds of the season you've been missing.
